The army doesn't issue good cold weather boots. I always had problems with my feet being cold and slipping on ice. I sprung for these 775s and what a difference. They really keep my feet toasty all the time, even when its below freezing temps, my feet are warm. The other advantage to these boots is the vibram sole. I was reading that this sole was designed specifically for icy surfaces and it really does grip well. It must be some combination of the type of rubber used in the sole along with the pattern of the lugs. Anyways, it works and keeps your from slipping in most cases. I'd highly recommend these boots if you're spending any periods outdoors in snow or cold weather. These boots cost a bomb but theyre worth it.
When I took these out of the box, I could tell they were specifically made for cold weather. The Gore tex bootie is sewn into the boot lining and it definitely works. I have a pair of hot weather boots I use in the summertime and they are much less insulated than these. I'm really glad I decided to get 2 sets of boots, one for the cold and one for hot.
